The speculation about the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it kicked off the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities only possible if you're playing as a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also famously flexible, enabling players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be completed in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.
