The star has donated the complete sum of his £25k award prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which works to save the Britain's independent concert spaces.

The star was given the prize on October 16 as his new release his work was named the top album of the last 12 months.

He has opted to hand the money over to the trust, in appreciation of the crucial part local spots had in his early career.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the shows I performed around the area, and further afield, when I was beginning," remarked Fender. "These spaces are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these locations have shut down – approximately 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, top acts including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the trust in its attempts to support the industry, by including a small levy to their ticket costs, which goes to help independent venues.

Fender also participated, raising over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to assist thirty-eight local spots across Britain.

The donation assisted spaces that were facing potential shutdown due to challenges stemming from flooding, blazes and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and noise complaints.

Some locations were granted monetary aid in modernizing amenities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted performers and audiences.

"The concept that revenue from concerts in big venues helps the independent spots, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has commented.

The musician is far from the only musician to give his award prize money to good deeds.

When Pulp received the award in the mid-90s for their record their work, frontman Cocker declared that the band would donate their prize money to the charity War Child.

During 2002, rapper and singer the artist shared her prize among several charities, like the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also donated a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I trained in gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked better apparatus," Ms Dynamite told a publication.

Previously, Ezra Collective gave their funds to the youth organization that supported their group, as well as other local music groups.

Additionally the 1994 recipients the group contributed their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a acquaintance was identified with the condition.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," remarked vocalist Small. "The cash was the bonus but we didn't need the bonus, because we had the main prize. So our victory touched another person's life."

Last week, the MVT shared it had saved a couple of local spots in that region, by placing them under public stewardship.

One venue in Southampton and the second in the city were acquired under the community ownership initiative, which is supported by a national body and enthusiasts who acquire "shares" in the buildings.
