Tragic Update on UPS Crash: Death Toll Increases to 13

The total count of fatalities from the transport jet which burst into flames and went down has reached 13, according to latest statements.

Mayor's Announcement

“On my way to the Union’s vigil, I was informed of a 13th person that passed away as a result of the UPS flight 2976 incident,” wrote the municipal leader in a social media post. “My prayers are with the loved ones, friends and peers of all who were taken in this week’s disaster. We will overcome this as one.”

Victims Named

A release from UPS identified the flight crew aboard the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our hearts are extended to each UPSer who has been affected and all in our local region – assisting you and guaranteeing you obtain the care and assistance you need is our main concern,” the organization’s message stated.

Inquiry Findings

Federal authorities disclosed that the jet’s port side wing burst into flames and an motor fell off soon after liftoff from the airfield, resulting in the aircraft to crash and explode into a blaze.

The safety agency has said it is probing the aircraft’s upkeep logs, which was in the state for fixes weeks ahead of the incident.

Aircraft records revealed the jet was on the ground in the Texas city from the start of last month to 18 October.

“We are knowledgeable that this jet was located in that city,” remarked an NTSB member on Thursday, without a specific date range. “We will look at each aspect of maintenance that was performed, even the San Antonio visit, right up to the time of the trip.”

Retrieval of Key Components

The audio device and flight data recorder were retrieved, and the motor was found on the runway.

The units – known as flight recorders – were constructed to endure collision damage and intense heat from blazes, and they seemed to be intact when located amid the wreckage. Investigators will examining information from the devices.

Aircraft’s final recorded information showed an height of 475 ft and a speed of 210 mph ahead of the crash.

Maintenance Background

Per FAA documents dated last month, a fissure on a structural piece inside the center wing fuel tank required maintenance.

The company ST Engineering, which indicated it provides structural repairs for UPS’s MD-11 and manages a repair facility in Texas, chose not to comment, but said it would assist completely when officials reached out it.

Operations Restart

At the same time, UPS Worldport activities continued Wednesday night with its overnight also known as nighttime procedure, official Jim Mayer said. Each of the three landing strips at the airport were also back in operation.

The sorting center in this location is the company’s largest. The hub hires over twenty thousand individuals in the locality, processes 300 flights daily and organizes in excess of four hundred thousand items each hour.

Public Reaction

A gathering was conducted on the late afternoon of that date by the regional Teamsters Union, which acts for employees at the airfield, the firm’s primary freight center.

The union chapter, which stands for staff, started the gathering with a moment of silence at the evening hour, the estimated hour of the crash two days earlier.

“This tragedy was so sudden, so unforeseen,” the leader spoke to the crowd of 200. “No one had a moment to part to any of those who we have said farewell to.”
